Sooooo a few weeks ago I had to go to the emergency room, with belly pain and fever, got kept overnight so they could CT scan me, and then the next day they found appendicitis. They kept me longer, giving me intravenous antibiotics (and no food, except the one time they tried to feed me on the 2nd night, I NEARLY threw up but didn't), but decided on the third day to get the appendix out. Good thing they did too, because they found out later it was full blown appendicitis. They let me out the next day. So yeah, gallbladder gone, appendix gone, what's next, tonsils? :P

Did I forget to tell everybody I have no gall?  Gallbladder = gone. Yeah, that was taken out in mid-November of last year.  Recovering was a nuisance.  The first time in the hospital, I was on morphine for a whole damn week practically.  My ability to coherently write fanfic in my head by playing the idea out like a TV cartoon episode (which is how I do it) was completely absent during that first stretch in the hospital, and it took forever to fully recover.  I did have some trippy dreams though.  Coming down off the morphine withdrawal was a pain, too.  One time one of my dreams, which was about Star Trek: Enterprise tried to convince me it was real and that I had to find out which crewmember (Commander Tucker, Captain Archer, Subcommander T'pol, Ensign Mayweather, or Lieutenant Reed) had been "possessed" by an alien AFTER I WOKE UP.  Then I woke up and was like OK DREAM THAT'S ENOUGH OF THAT.  And I was sweating too.  Ugh.

Second time around in the hospital, in mid-November, was, like the first time, from a trip to the emergency room.  I had a fever and was throwing up AND PASSING OUT RIGHT AFTER, just like the first time.  They found my gallbladder was inflamed (whereas the first time my pancreas was inflamed) and admitted me and put me on intravenous antibiotics.  At least this time I got a TV in my "room".  I didn't get all the stations I would have access to at home but it was enough.  At least this time I only needed morphine directly after surgery, so my imagination wasn't screwed to heck and I could do drawings.  However, my fanficcing ability was still rather impaired.  That hadn't recovered fully until sometime in late February/early March.

Soooo, the moral of this story?  If you're Throwing up, PASSING OUT (during or after) AND got a fever ALL AT ONCE, get your ass to the hospital, pronto.

Yeah.  I had to go to the Emergency room.  Wee hours of Sept 27th.  I had such bad stomach cramps that I could not lie down, nothing was helping (not ginger ale, not soda, Eno made me throw up, and even good ol Pepto let me down) and finally i started getting lightheaded.  That was it.  I got my parents to drive me to the hospital where I was given nasty pink stuff that made my tongue go numb.  All it did was make me throw up harder.  I saw things.  Awful awful things.  In those sick bags.  I was so sick I had to have the order "nothing by mouth" meaning no food only IV for several days, not to mention IV morphine.  Now morphine is a helluva drug but it could do very little for the back and side pain that prevented me from sleeping most of the time and the stretchers that served in place of the hospital beds in the "overflow" ward (3 North) didn't make that any easier - no matter what I did with the bed or pillows, I still got severe backache.  Getting out of bed was a HUGE pain, literally, it was cold most of the time (according to my perception), and I had to drag around one of those mobile IV things everywhere I went (except when I went for tests).  Going to the bathroom was a huge chore.  There was only one on the ward, but another one down the hall near 3 South that I often used. 7 beds total in the ward, I got one which thankfully had a normal sink (not an automated sensor sink, thank goodness).  When I slept, it was mostly weird half-awake stuff mixed with dreams, though on Sunday night I did get some very strange vivid dreams that seemed to call back to dreams from the distant past, plus a couple scenes that seemed like they were straight outta Jackass.  On the morphine i could stare out at the trees through the window and effortlessly pick out "faces" and critters formed by the patterns in the leaves.  This was not fun however, as morphine left me no control of my imagination whatsoever.  There's like maybe 5 tvs in the entire ward, and my room was not one that had it.  So i was tormented by repeat news and sports because ugh old people ;P .  My half-dreams picked up where they left off whenever I returned to sleep.  Internet deprivation and proper TV deprivation does strange things to a person's dreams!

My family of course came to visit me and brought me stuff.  Morphine made me somewhat unsociable and drowsy, though.  I was glad enough to get off it and onto Tylenol when I could.

They had given me a chest x-ray, an Ultrasound, and an MRI to find a problem, and said it was acute pancreatitis, possibly brought on by sludge from the gall bladder as the two share a duct.  After no foods I went on clear fluid diet.

And so, uh, now I'm back.  And alive.  Phew.

Soooo, Teletoon Retro (Canada's answer to USA's "boomerang" channel) is going dark at the end of the month.  Grrrrr.  Well at least they're putting some of the retro shows onto regular Teletoon.  But what annoys me most is they didn't get the FULL series of either Thundercats, He-Man, or She-ra; only Season 1 of original Thundercats, and halfway through Season 1 of both He-Man and She-ra.

*muttergrumbles*
